FAQs

  • Hard or Soft Clay

We take pride to keep uniformity and consistency throughout our clay production. If you are experiencing clay that is too hard or too moist to work with, please let us know. It is critical to have customer feedback on hard or too moist clay to improve the water content of our recipes. If your clay is not to your satisfaction, we are happy to exchange or refund your order upon request. Please fill out the following form with any issues.
Tips for Hard Clay: If your clay is fresh from RMC and is too hard to use for your liking, we would be happy to exchange or refund your order. If your clay has been sitting for a while in your studio and you need some tips to get it usable again, here you go!

Clay has thixotropic characteristics, which means, clay that is too hard (viscous) will become softer when energy is added to it. So add energy to it! Drop it on the ground, throw it on the ground, punch it, kick it, heat it (to low temperatures). If this doesn’t do the trick, add some water to the bag and let it sit for a few days and wedge!
Tips for Soft Clay: Clay dries quickly so if your clay is too moist, let it air out then wedge it. It should become more firm shortly. Please let us know if your clay is consistently too soft though.

  • Shipping/Freight

Local Denver delivery happens according to the delivery schedule found on the home page. Deliveries from our RMC truck will be charged $59.

Shipping outside of Denver/Metro area is weight based. And follows the following rules.

-All orders less than or equal to 250lb (5 boxes) will be shipped via USPS or UPS for a flat rate charge of $23.50 for every 50lb (1 box) ordered.

-Orders 25lb or less will ship for $15

-All orders of 400lb (8 boxes) or more outside Denver Metro Area will be charged a flat $249 for freight shipping. Freight may vary with weight and location. Should freight costs exceed $249, you will be contacted for approval, prior to shipment, with updated freight costs. Orders at this time can be then refunded free of charge if needed.

Some items including kiln shelves and slip may not be able to ship to all locations. These are difficult to ship and can easily be broken.

Kiln Shelf Disclaimer: Unfortunately with delivery and handling of packages, shipping companies can be rough with packages. We pack all packages well and securely with necessary packing peanuts, bubble wrap and paper but often kiln shelves can still be broken. We have seen around a 25% break rate with kiln shelves. If you would like kiln shelves shipped, Rocky Mountain Clay will not be responsible for the damage and/or handling of kiln shelves during shipping or transit. Any shelves that are delivered or received broken will not be refunded,or replaced. When placing an order for a kiln shelf to be shipped, the customer is responsible for the risk of shipping and will have to verify that prior to shipment via email. In the unfortunate event that their shelf arrives broken or damaged, it is up to the customer to file a claim through the shipping provider. Thank you for understanding.
