Coming in toasty and speckled, we have one of our best selling mid-fire stoneware clays: Speckled Buff! With speckling that shows through glazes, this clay does all the work for you when it comes to beautifully finished pieces. Specks create a beautiful spotted look and come out 'one of a kind' every single time!
Easy to throw and hand-build with, this clay is considered a smooth clay body, although you may feel the manganese specks occasionally while throwing - this clay will make you look good, no matter what you create with it!
Characteristics:
Cone 6 recommended.
*Bloating may occur at anything higher than a cone 7.
Wet Color: Pinky brown
Fire Color
Oxidation: Buff with specks
Reduction: Not Recommended due to bloating at higher temps, but can be done! Testing is encouraged prior to putting it through a reduction firing.
Texture: Smooth
Avg. Shrinkage ±1%: 12%
Avg. Water Absorption ±0.5%: 1%
