This black powder produces red, brown, purple, or black tones in clay bodies and glazes. It acts as a strong flux when used in large amounts, contributing to the melting and bonding process. Primarily used in ceramics to create dark brown or black speckles in fired pieces, it is the same material as manganese dioxide powder but not ground as finely. Typically available in a 60-80 mesh, it is commonly used in amounts of 0.2-0.3% for best results.
