Like the name describes, Chestnut fires a rich, warm, nutty brown color. We use the cleanest firing red stoneware clay as the base of this clay body along with other ball clays to achieve excellent handling and firing properties. Our Chestnut clay is suitable for functional and sculptural ceramic projects - looking just as beautiful unglazed as it does glazed.
For best results, fire at cone 5 with no hold. If fired above cone 6 or with a significant hold, bloating can easily occur.
Please test thoroughly before going into production, this clay is high in iron so there are tendencies for bloating at a temperature higher than cone 7.

Firing Range: Mid Fire

Best for: Wheel Throwing and Hand Building
