Darvan 7

Darvan 7 functions as a deflocculant akin to sodium silicate, but with the unique advantage of not causing erosion in plaster molds, unlike sodium silicate. Acting as a thinning agent in slips, as well as a dispersing agent for clay bodies and glazes, Darvan 7 weakens the electrical attraction between clay particles. This attribute primarily enhances fluidity in casting slips and regulates the rate of shrinkage, particularly beneficial for porcelains and clay with high iron content. Conversely, for stoneware, high fire slips, and red low fire slips, Darvan 811 is the preferred choice.

Slips formulated with Darvan 7 exhibit minimal thickening upon standing, making it a favored addition in glaze applications. Moreover, it finds utility in joining slip, a usage that conserves water and minimizes shrinkage at attachment points.
