Licorice is a Texas Two-Step undercoat glaze, designed for use with the specialized oilspot overcoats in the series. On its own, Licorice produces a mottled, glossy black finish, but it truly shines when paired with one of the five overcoats, such as Coffee Bean or Brick Red, to create a stunning spotted pattern during firing.
In the Texas Two-Step Oilspots series, thicker applications of the overcoat will result in larger spots, giving potters great control over the effect. Wax resist can also be used between layers to create interesting negative space designs.
